Zesty Orange & Ginger Relish

In the past couple of years my love for Cranberry Relish has grown to new heights.  I love the sweet and tart contrast and complement to the generally heavy Thanksgiving meal.  (It goes great with leftover sandwiches the next day too!)  If you are a Cranberry Relish connoisseur like me (and hopefully even if you are not) you will love this zesty Orange & Ginger version; the flavor combination is to die for!  Plus, it only has a few ingredients, it’s easy to make, and you can do it in advance.   Other than popping the cork on the wine, this could possibly be the easiest stunner that you will make for your Thanksgiving meal.

Orange & Ginger Cranberry

Here’s what you’ll need…

1 (12 ounce) Bag of Fresh Cranberries

1 cup of Sugar

Zest of 1 Orange (approx 2 TBS)

3 TBS Orange Juice (the juice of the 1 orange)

1 TBS of freshly grated Ginger

Mix all ingredients in saucepan

First rinse and and drain your cranberries.  Using a microplane, zest your orange and ginger.  Add all ingredients into a saucepan; mix together and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and, stirring occasionally, simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until almost all the cranberries have popped open. (**If you prefer a thinner relish, you can stir in up to 2 TBS of additional orange juice now.)  Set aside to cool and serve at room temperature.  The relish can be stored in an air tight container in the fridge for a couple of days.  Enjoy!

    I have always wanted to try fresh ginger and this looks like a great recipe to try. But I have a question. Do you peel it before grating?

    Rachel, I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit with the family. This is a recipe I will definitely make again….soon, as i finished off the last of it today. Thanks for sharing!!

      Great! I am so glad it was a hit. You’re lucky your leftovers of it held out so long; I wasn’t as lucky! ;-)
